AlterNet: Wait, There Actually Is a Bridge in Brooklyn You Can Sell Me?: "The gullibility of anyone who thinks it's possible to buy the Brooklyn Bridge is an old punch line, but today the joke is on us. In these weird times of privatization fever, buying bridges is no longer considered preposterous, and old Will would be appalled by the crass morals of both the sellers and the buyers in these increasingly common transactions."
Yes, let's sell all of our infrastructure to corporations who are more concerned about profit than public safety. If anyone has seen Fight Club, specifically the part about automobile recalls, you can see that fact is evident. Sure, in the movie, it is very dramatized, but the fact is, that there are real calculations that determine the price of a recall versus the price of litigation over injuries and death. What kind of calculations will they come up with when the bridges start to plunge into the rivers? What is the "acceptable" loss of life?
